Description of Presentation

This session will focus on the integration of digital maps into the Social Studies Classroom. We will discuss the ability of digital maps to include statistical data from multiple data sources and display them using different visual effects for students to better understand world relationships. The presentation will include the resources, such as Google Earth & Maps, UUorld, Gapminder, Worldmapper, TruliaHindsight, and more.

Google Earth

  • Tools - Add Placemarks, Overlays, Historical Imagery, Record Tours & Ruler
  • Layers
    Layers > Gallery > Rumsey Historical Maps, Ancient Rome, 360 Cities, NY Times, Street View, etc.
    Layers > More > US Government > US Congressional Districts, School District Boundaries, etc.
  • KML or KMZ files > Examples of Google Earth Files below will open directly in Google Earth
